April Fool’s Day is on April 1st. The most important thing to do on that day is to play a
joke on somebody.
Today people think the celebration of April Fool’s Day as we know it started in France
in the 16th century. Because of a change in the calendar at that time people
accepted January 1st as the beginning of the New Year. Until then, they celebrated
New Year’s Eve on that day.
Nobody knows exactly when, where or why the traditional celebration began. It might
be connected with ancient festivals of the beginning of the New Year. At that time
people exchanged gifts, ate delicious food and danced.
